Our Halloween books provided lots of inspiration for a monster-themed party we attended recently. But my inability to sew two pieces of material together limited our options.
With a bit of creative thinking, we pulled together some cute costume accessories that didn’t require any sewing at all. They are so simple to make that kids can even create them on their own.
If you don’t dress up for Halloween, or you don’t have any monster parties on the horizon, these accessories would still be a perfect addition to your dress-up box.
Monster Eye Headbands
You will need:
- Headband
- Pipe cleaner/s (quantity will depend on how many eyes you want)
- Polystyrene balls
- Permanent Marker
1) Use the marker to draw and colour an eye on each of your polystyrene balls
2) Push one end of a pipe cleaner through each polystyrene ball
3) Wind the other end of the pipe cleaner around the headband
Monster Hands
Our monster hands are a variation of these monster claws we found at The Southern Institute. These gloves are so simple for little hands to make.
You will need:
- Green exfoliator gloves (or you could use green dish washing gloves)
- Double-sided tape (You could use a hot glue gun for a more permanent result)
- 10 small triangles cut from felt or other fabric
- Googly eyes
- Pom poms
- Buttons
- Foam Shapes
1) Simply use the double-sided tape to attach a triangle to the top of each finger.
2) Again, use the double-sided tape to attach the embellishments to the gloves.
